THE ALIONS

Once upon a time there was a group of aliens who planned to take over the world, they were called the Alions. They were as evil as a monster. Down in the world, the sun was shining and the shopkeeper’s son was playing in the street. Suddenly a flock of birds flew away. Then an Alion spaceship started sucking up people. It even sucked up some people playing basketball. The spaceship sailed across the sky. But the little boy was still on earth. So he got his nerf gun and set a bullet on fire. Then he fired it at the spaceship and all the humans fell back to Earth. The Alions got sent to prison. And everyone lived happily ever after.

Science Experiment

I conducted an experiment to explore how water resistance acts on different objects.

I made three paper boats. One was big, one was small, and one was square.
We placed them in a bath, and I blew the boats to the other side of the bath.
Here are the videos of the experiment:

This was the little boat

This was the big boat

This was the square boat

This was the wet boat!

I observed that the boats did move a different speeds: the square boat went the fastest, the small boat wet the slowest, and the big boat was faster than the small boat but not as fast as the square boat. I think that the square boat was most successful because no water got into it, and it turned into an edge which had the least amount of water resistance.

I expected the small boat to be the fastest because it weighed less than the big boat, and it was pointed, but it turned so it had more of a flat edge, so there was more water resistance when the boat moved.

The one that failed was in the water for a long time so it got really floppy and didn’t stand up. Other experiments I could try to test water resistance could be going in a swimming pool and moving my hand through the water at different angles. This way I could feel the water resistance on my hand.

WIMBLEDON 2019

We went to Wimbledon! It was a beautiful day and we didn’t have strawberries and cream. We DID get to watch the men’s final on the screens on courts 2 and 3. The match was quite nerve-wracking because you didn’t know who was going to win.

It went to 12-12 in the 5th set, and then there was a tie-break which Djokovic won. It was the first tie break to be played in a final (the longest match ever was played over the 22-24 june 2010 between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut – the score was 6–4, 3–6, 6–7(7–9), 7–6(7–3), 70–68, and was won by Isner in the 5th set!!)

After the final, we got Centre Court tickets for the Ladies’ Doubles Final between Hsieh Su-wei & Barbora Strýcová and Gabriela Dabrowski & Xu Yifan. We were lucky to get to go on Centre Court and it was really exciting! Dabrowski and Yifan’s tactics were to fire everything at Hsieh Su-wei, but she actually got most of them back. It looked like they did this tactic because Strýcová has very powerful shots so they were probably scared! Su-wei & Strýcová won 6-2, 6-4

We sat in the front row which was amazing because you can see all of the movement and where they hit the shots. On TV you see the match from a bird’s-eye view, but being at court-side you can see all the players at once and you can hear them speaking. It’s really exciting and doubles is super fast! At one point they did six volleys in a row! Strýcová did the fastest serve in the match at 109 mph.

This was our view!

We got a Wimbledon bag!

Thanks to Clare & her friend for giving us the tickets so we could go to Wimbledon!

Wimbledon

Two days ago me and my dad went to Wimbledon! First we got on the train and went to Southfields.

There were lots of tennis things there. When we got to Wimbledon we checked our bags and signed our tickets, which were an amazing gift from mum’s friend’s friend! Thanks!!

We got on the hill and watched the men’s finals between Djokovic and Anderson. I wanted Djokovic to win, and he did!

There was an enormous screen.

When the match had finished we queued up to get return tickets for the Mixed Doubles Final on Centre Court. When we got them I screamed! I was very excited to go to Centre Court.

We walked to Centre Court and went upstairs. We couldn’t find the right entrance at first and we had 6 goes and eventually found the right one!

We sat down, then the players came on and had a warm up (check the video). Then they started playing. Unfortunately, Jamie Murray and Victoria Azerenka lost. It was an amazing match!

Then my tooth fell out. Ha ha!

We walked around all the courts and had a good look round Wimbledon. Then a man gave me 50 stickers saying ‘I’ve queued in the sun in Wimbledon’, AND the tournament programme (which was £10!).

Then we went for a pizza. Dad got the same size pizza as me, but then they said, ‘sorry your pizza is a bit small, we’ll get you another one!’

What a lucky day! Free tennis, free stickers, free programme, free pizza!

Then we got the train home. All the streets and the train station had pictures of tennis stuff.

After the match I made my own Wimbledon and I made some paintings too!

Me and dad have been playing tennis every day after school too.
